Indulge in a sensational feast aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train

Exceptional European cuisine is freshly prepared in the train’s kitchen by the Chef and his skilled team. Fresh ingredients are taken on board at stops along the route. Look out the window and you may spot the chef inspecting lobsters from Brittany, tomatoes from Provence or saltmarsh lamb from Mont St Michel. The set-menus are an inclusive part of your trip. Drinks and à la carte options are also available at an additional charge. The Chefs will be delighted to cater for any specific dietary requirements – please ensure that you inform us of your needs at the time of booking. Dining Carriages on board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express

Dining Car 4095 L’Oriental

Built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company in 1927 was comissioned as a Pullman Kitchen Car. It has an Oriental theme with Chinese style laquer wall panels.

Dining Car 4110 Etoile du Nord

Built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company in 1926 to serve on the Etoile du Nord Pullman Train.

Dining Car 4141 Côte d’Azur

Built in 1929, this was originally a 1st Class Pullman Car used on the Cote d’Azur Pullman Express. The carriage features ornate glass panels by René Lalique.

Bar Car

vsoe-bar-lbox The Bar Car was built in France in 1931 and based at the Gare Saint-Lazare in Paris. After the war it ran as part of the Sud Express from Paris to Irún on the Spanish border and from Paris to Toulouse in Le Capitole. Today it boasts a beautiful, Art Nouveau-style interior by Gérard Gallet.

Travel on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train to Berlin and return by air. Depart London mid-morning for your luxurious overnight journey to Berlin, where you arrive late afternoon the next day. Spend 2 nights in Berlin (hotel not included in guide price) before returning to the UK by air.

Can I smoke on board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train?

No. To comply with Italian and other European regulations, Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train operates a no smoking policy on board both the Belmond British Pullman and the continental train.

What do I wear on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train?

You can never be overdressed on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train. For dinner, we ask that men wear a suit and tie and women dress in smart attire, but many guests like to don black tie or evening dress for the occasion. During the day the dress code is smart-casual. At lunch, for example, a jacket and tie is suitable for men. Jeans are not acceptable at any time.

What languages do staff on board the train speak?

French, English and Italian are spoken by most stewards on board the continental train.

What currency do I need on board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train?

Prices are quoted in Euros and it is recommended that passengers have a small number of Euros for onboard purchases. However, most major currencies are accepted, as well as travellers’ cheques, Eurocheques and major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diners Club and JCB). The exchange rate on board is displayed in the Bar Car.

How long does my journey take?

Journeys on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train can last from one to several days. The traditional and most popular route between London and Venice takes two days, with one night on board. See Journey Search for details of our other departures.

How do I cross the English Channel?

Passengers travelling from or to London will board the Belmond British Pullman carriages of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train between London and Folkestone. You are then escorted by our hostess to a luxury coach for the Channel crossing on the Eurotunnel shuttle.

Will I need insurance for my trip?

As with all holidays and trips abroad, it is advisable to have travel insurance. Your Mulberry Travel advisor will be able to advise you.

Will there be room in my compartment for all my luggage?

Despite having luggage racks in our cabins, space constraints require that luggage is limited, per passenger, to: one suitable piece of hand luggage, one suit carrier or overnight bag (to be placed in your cabin), and one suitcase to be stored in the baggage car, where it will not be accessible until you reach your destination.

Will I need to tip the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express staff?

Any gratuities you wish to give are entirely at your discretion.
