Isla Mujeres (or the Island of Women) is a small island just eight miles off the Yucatán Peninsula
Despite the island’s sleepy reputation, there are a few sites worth visiting. One is the Hacienda Mundaca, the ruined mansion of a 19th-century slave trader named Mundaca. The mysterious death of the house’s owner adds to the colonial estate’s haunting charm.
Isla Mujeres also remains popular for its sea turtles, and you can glimpse the creatures at the local tortugranja, or turtle farm. The farm contains several hundred turtles and an aquarium, with tours in both Spanish and English. You can reach the aquarium by taxi from Isla Mujeres’ downtown. If you’re looking for the right beach on Isla Mujeres, head to Playa del Norte, regarded among travelers as an excellent, beautiful and pristine beach.
You can reach Isla Mujeres by ferry from three different Cancún ports: Punta Sam, Puerto Juarez and Gran Puerto.
Things to Do::
Approximately two-and-a-half hours by road from Cancun, Chichén Itzá is a large Mayan archaeological site and one of the most notable and recognized landmarks on the Yucatán: The site itself was originally a main hub of Mayan civilization and has since been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The focal point of the ruins is the pyramid-like El Castillo that was once used by Mayans as a temple to worship.
