1. Minimum residency period prior to the marriage
A minimum residency of 3 working days is required for a civil ceremony prior to the marriage to complete the necessary legal formalities. 5 working days is required for a religious ceremony.
2. Documents required
You and your partner will each need
• Valid original 10 –year UK passport which expires more than 6 months after the date of your return to the UK
• Original birth certificate
• Sworn Affidavits – Statement signed and stamped by a solicitor confirming both parties are free to marry. This must be prepared one month or less before your wedding date.
• If you have been divorced, the original decree absolute
• If you have been widowed, the original copy of your partner’s death certificate along with your original marriage certificate
• If you have changed your name, the original copy of the deed poll proof of name change will be required. Please note that if you have been divorced and reverted to using your maiden name then this counts as a change of name, and proof of that change will be required.
• If you were adopted, the original copy of your adoption certificate.
• Copies of your witnesses’ passports will be required to be added to the wedding licence form.
• Original baptism/christening certificate (for church weddings only)
• Notice of Marriage – this must be submitted to a marriage officer prior to your wedding.
• Original statutory declaration. This must be made less than 12 weeks before the date on which you return to the UK and must state the following information.
3. Before you travel
We do not require any documents to be sent in advance
ALL ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS MUST BE TAKEN WITH YOU WHEN YOU TRAVEL.
4. When you get there
You will need to apply for a marriage licence at the town hall; your personal wedding coordinator will assist with the process. Ayia Napa and Paralimni Town Hall weddings take place no later than 14.30. Ayios Elias Gardens weddings take place from 14.00 onwards, Hotel weddings can take place from 11.00 onwards for Ayia Napa and 14.00 onwards for Paralimni Paphos, Geroskipou, Peyia and Yermasoyia Town Hall weddings take place before 2pm.
The cost to have a town hall wedding after 2pm is and additional fee of €170, payable locally.
Hotel, yacht and church weddings will normally take place after 2pm
