Explore Machu Picchu In comfort
This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for most people that climaxes in the fascinating mysterious Lost City of the Incas: Machu Picchu . The Inca Trail combines spectacular landscapes, lush cloud forest, sub-tropical jungle and a mixture of Inca ruins. On this journey we use premium hotels and whilst on the trek itself we also offer a more varied range of meals and a higher weight limit that allows you to take more clothes and personal items to make your trek as comfortable as possible.
Our trip is designed to maximise the time spent at Machu Picchu, and a dawn tour of the ruins allows us to appreciate the site before the crowds of day trippers and other trekkers arrive. (Alternative remote Moonstone Trek available when Inca Trail Permits have sold out).

Day 1 ::
[jcolumns]
Depart London
The overnight group flights to Cuzco (via Sao Paulo and Lima) depart London this evening.
[jcol/]
[/jcolumns]
[jtab/]
Day 2 ::
Arrive Cuzco (3,400m); free time to explore
Set amidst hills in the altiplano, the Imperial City of the Incas, Cuzco was the geographic, cultural and political centre of a vast empire which, at its peak, stretched from present day Quito in Ecuador to Santiago in Chile. After the Spanish conquistadores invaded the city they started building on top of the Incan structures, resulting in unique architecture, a fusion of the Incan and Spanish colonial styles. The group flights usually arrive in the mid-afternoon, giving time to wander the cobbled streets admiring the old houses, visiting its interesting museums, churches and pre-Columbian buildings, such as Qorikancha – the Sun Temple, or to sit in a café, enjoying a coca-tea watching locals in their traditional dress go about their business. There will be a briefing in the evening.
[jtab/]
Day 3 ::
Visit the Sacred Valley and the ruins at Pisac; continue to Ollantaytambo (2,800m)
Today we visit the magnificent Sacred Valley of the Incas and the incredible ruins at Pisac before continuing on to Ollantaytambo, where we spend the night. The Sacred Valley, which runs along the Urubamba River near Cuzco, is the true heartland of Incan culture and tradition, which is still strong today. The high-Andean scenery is dotted with old towns and villages dating back to pre-Columbian times. The ruins of the Citadel at Pisac guarded a road from the lowlands and gives way to a picturesque landscape of terraces carved into the solid rock itself. Whilst the Inca ruins at Ollantaytambo give you a sense of the scale of what is to come as huge stone terraces scale the valley sides. This was the royal estate of Inca Emperor Pachacuti as well as being of religious and defensive significance.
[jtab/]
Day 4 ::
Start Inca Trail trek from km82; walk along Urubamba River then climb to Huayllabamba
The Classic Inca Trail is a tangential branch part of a 45,000km road network linking the whole empire to Cuzco. It was built in the 15th Century to reach Machu Picchu but was abandoned soon after the Spanish conquest. American adventurer, Hiram Bingham travelled along the trail when he came across Machu Picchu in 1911. The trail opened to the public in 1970. We leave Ollantaytambo this morning and take a short drive (approx. 45 minutes) to the start of the Inca Trail at Piscacucho, commonly known as Km82. The trail runs alongside the Vilcanota River beneath the impressive snowcapped Nevado Veronica, passing through cactus gardens and fields of corn until we reach the enormous Inca ruins of Llactapata, where we continue up a side valley to camp near the hamlet of Huayllabamba.
[jtab/]
Days 5 ::
Cross Dead Woman’s Pass (4,215m)
This is the longest and most strenuous day of the trek. A long climb takes us first through an area of cloud forest to the meadows of Llulluchapampa, then over the Warmihuañusca (Dead Woman’s) Pass, at 4,215m the highest point on the trek. After quite a long, steep descent we camp in the scenic valley of the Pacamayo River (3,600m).
[jtab/]
Day 6 ::
Over second pass to ruins of Sayajmarca and Phuyupatamarca
We start the day with an easier climb which takes us past the ruins of Runquracay and over the Runquracay Pass (3,930m). From now on the Inca Trail becomes a clearly defined path made of flat boulders. We pass the ruins of Sayajmarca and suddenly enter rainforest; at one point the Trail passes through an Inca tunnel. We camp on the ridge above the Inca site of Phuyupatamarca (3,680m) to benefit from the views of sunset and sunrise.
[jtab/]
Day 7 ::
Down Inca steps to Winay Wayna and Machu Picchu
From the ridge we embark on the infamous Inca steps: a two kilometre stone staircase taking us rapidly downhill amid a panorama of overwhelming immensity, with the peaks of the Vilcabamba range above, and the river thousands of metres below. After visiting the attractive ruins of Wiñay Wayna, we have an undulating walk through cloud forest high above the river to Inti Punku, the Sun Gate. From here we get our first full sight of Machu Picchu itself, with Huayna Picchu rising behind. Traditionally busy with groups of trekkers clamouring for photos, we plan our arrival at Inti Punku later in the day so we can enjoy unobstructed views of the magnificent ruins. Our trekking permits allow us one entry into the site, which we use for our dawn tour tomorrow, but anyone wishing to visit the citadel on both days can purchase an additional entry ticket today for approx. US$50 – your tour leader will assist with this. Passing around the ruins we descend to the river and Aguas Calientes for a well-earned rest, a comfortable hotel room and hot shower.
[jtab/]
Days 8 ::
Visit Machu Picchu for guided dawn tour; return to Cuzco by train
We return to Machu Picchu early for a tour of the ruins at their quietest and most evocative. This hour is when the ruins are quietest as the trekkers finishing that day haven’t arrived yet and the day trippers are still on their way from Cuzco. Machu Picchu was built in the 15th century, most likely as an estate for the emperor Pachacuti. The site was abandoned in the 16th century with the conquest of the Spanish and was forgotten by all but the people who lived nearby. In 1911, whilst searching for the lost city Vitcos, Hiram Bingham travelled down the Urubamba asking local farmers if they knew of any ruins nearby. This is how he was taken to Machu Picchu, completely covered by jungle at this stage. The site has since been cleared and its location atop a mountain makes it one of the most awe-inspiring sights in the world. After free time to explore individually, we return to the village and board the Belmond Hiram Bingham train in the afternoon or early evening (a packed lunch is provided today). The route follows the rapids of the Urubamba River, enters the Sacred Valley and climbs onto the altiplano, eventually arriving into Cuzco.
[jtab/]
Days 9 ::
Free day Cuzco (various optional activities and excursions available)
Today has been left free to relax after the trek or explore Cuzco further. There are a number of optional excursions available which your tour leader can arrange for you. If you still have the energy you could chose to mountain bike in the Sacred Valley, taking in a 30-35km ride through Moray, Maras and the small village of Pichingoto. Alternatively you could try your hand at paddle boarding on Lake Piuray near the town of Chinchero. Or, if feeling more subdued, take it easy and watch the world go by in Cuzco’s Plaza de Armas.
[jtab/]
Day 10 ::
Fly to Lima; depart
Those travelling on the group flights will be taken to Cuzco airport this morning for your domestic flight to Lima where you will connect with your overnight flight to London via Sao Paulo.
[jtab/]
Day 11 ::
Arrive London
The group flights arrive in London today.

Enjoy a little more comfort as you trek to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu
On this trip we follow a similar itinerary to our popular ‘Inca Trail’ trip (trip code TPT) but with upgraded hotels, an included Sacred Valley tour, included sleeping bag hire, and with a hotel night at Machu Picchu replacing a night’s camping. While on the trek itself, we also offer a more varied range of meals and a higher personal weight limit than on our standard Inca Trail itineraries, allowing you to take more clothes and personal items to make your trek as comfortable as possible. Our trip is designed to maximise the time spent at Machu Picchu, and a dawn tour of the ruins allows us to appreciate the site before the crowds of day trippers and other trekkers arrive. We use a variety of comfortable hotels in Cuzco, Ollantaytambo and in Aguas Calientes (depending on departure date) – we can provide a hotel list for your departure date upon request. All of the properties are centrally located, with en-suite bathrooms and breakfast facilities and many feature Colonial architecture.
The trek itself is on a full-service camping basis. We stay in organised campsites jointly administered by the National Institute of Culture and the National Parks Service. We use three-man tents for those on a twin share basis and two-man tents for singles. The tents are relatively spacious with enough room inside for the kitbags. We provide thermarest-type mats which are about 4cm thick when inflated and 3-4 season sleeping bags.
We also have a dining tent complete with table and folding chairs, and toilet tents for use during lunch stops as well as during the evenings. A hot drink and a bowl of warm water (to wash with) will be brought to your tent each morning.
A limited number of single supplements (hotel and tent) are available on this trip from £175; please request upon booking.

It is the first time we have used a travel agent to book a package holiday which included the travel, hotel and event as one booking so quite rightly your a little apprehensive that everything goes smoothly.
We were kept informed regularly before leaving and laterly presented with a very good presentation pack which included the itinerary in date order so we got off to a very good start.
The seating arrangements that were pre booked were in a prime position along with the quality of our hotel which Mulberry Travel recommended and could not be faulted due to its uninterrupted views overlooking the coast.
All in all this break represented very good value for money and took away a lot of the stress to organize something special whilst using the knowledge of Mulberry travel to good effect.
So 5 stars for value and quality from me.

Andrea Bocelli was absolutely sensational!! Probably the best experience of my life thus far! I'll definitely go again next year & the year after. Mulberry Travel did it all so well... every aspect, the hotel in the best location right by the Ponte Vecchio, the pick up from the airport, dinner before the concert was out of a dream... an absolute perfect dream plucked out of my mind 🥰
Thanks a million Lee at Mulberry Travel.... it was all perfectly seamless 😊😊

Mulberry Travel delivered an incredible bespoke travel experience, making all the arrangements for our trip to Florence combined with attending the Andrea Bocelli concert held in his home village in Tuscany.
All the travel arrangements were perfect, transfers etc were all on time and so professional. The hotel in Florence was fantastic, no complaints at all. The concert was fantastic and the location for the pre-concert dinner was stunning. An experience my wife and I will never forget! A big thanks to Sasha for making all the arrangements, first class customer service throughout.

Really grateful to Sasha at Mulberry Travel for arranging our trip to Tuscany to see Andrea Boccelli.
Sasha arranged everything on my behalf and was an amazing experience.
We arrived at Pisa Airport where we we were collected by our own driver and taken to our hotel in Florence, a beautiful hotel that was ideally located.
The day of the concert we were driven through the Tuscan countryside for an alfresco 5 course meal......was something of a film set, afterwards we we were dropped off at the entrance to the venue.
Thanks to Mulberry Travel and Sasha for arranging everything on my behalf for an amazing experience.
We'll definitely be booking this trip again......thank you.

A fantastic experience on the Belmond Pullman from London Victoria to Liverpool taking in the Grand National.
The food on board the train was sublime, I can say no more. Service from Tim, Andrew and Nigel was perfect within carriage Perseus.
The train was lovely and each carriage different.
Overall my party of four have applied for next year, hopefully we will be successful.

As I had hoped it was a fabulous and unique experience from stepping out from the Clermont onto the concourse of Victoria Station and almost straight away being approached by Belmond staff to escort us to check in. The ratio of staff to guest on the whole journey was so high to ensure attentive service.
I know the British Pullman is denoted as the hors d’oeuvre with the VSOE the main positive course! For us however the Pullman was the ultimate experience. We feel it is our country Britain at its very best! Everything about it is so British with real quality and indulgence. I’m so so sorry and disappointed to hear that the British Pullman service is no longer going to be a feature of Orient Express journeys! I even took photos of the toilets with the mosaic tiles!
On the actual Orient Exoress, even though I had done all the research I thought I needed, we weren’t clear that certain wines and champagnes were complimentary Ian’s eyes popped out at the prices of some of the bottles! We enjoyed all our meals though the drinks for breakfast were served in cups and therefore were not hot
The transfer to the Ca Sagredo was really well organised and efficient. Though they didn’t say at reception as we checked in, it was clear on entering the room that it was not the Grand Canal Double and that we had been upgraded! We were shown to the Library Suite with balcony onto Grand Canal. Maybe it was through the membership of that hotel group that I have
The break in Florence was also lovely with attentive service and friendliness from staff at The Lungarno. That hotel has the best location in terms of proximity to Ponte Vecchio
Sasha we were also pleased with the efficiency of the agents you use for the transfers. The timings were so accurate and agsin service very attentive
The only slight snag we had was as we got off the water taxi at Venice Santa Lucia. We know now it was separate from that service. A porter was waiting with a barrow and started to load our luggage! It was a short distance to the station concourse yet we were charged 20 Euros as an official transaction with a machine issuing a receipt
Apart from that we enjoyed a truely memorable holiday which I can recommend as a unique treat for a special celebration.

Our trip on the Orient Express can only be described as amazing.
From meeting the Pullman at Victoria and travelling through the English countryside the level of Service was impeccable.
Meeting the Orient Express in Calais was one of those Wow moments. We were met by the VSOE staff and escorted on to the train the champagne was opened and the Golden age of travel was revived.
Lakes and mountains as you travel through the countryside are simply breathtaking.
The cuisine on the train was amazing as was our steward that looked after us through out our trip.
Arriving in Venice the boat transfers were seamless, and another great experience arriving at our hotel.
We stayed at the Liassidi palace hotel, perfectly situated in the city.
Venice is just amazing.
Wonderful, faultless, brilliantly organised holiday.

So where do I begin? Firstly thanks to Sasha for arranging an amazing trip for us on the Orient Express and our stay in Venice. Also for holding the trip over from when we originally booked, pre-pandemic.

Many Thanks to Mulberry. We wil certainly approach them again for future trips.

Can't thank Sasha enough for organizing a fantastic trip to Venice for us. The highlight was an amazing Andrea Boccelli concert, but the L'Oroglio hotel was great, with really friendly and helpful staff. All our transfers worked like clockwork from the speedboat from the airport to the hotel and back, and the limousine to and from the concert. Overall a wonderful few days and we won't hesitate to use Mulberry again.

Three years ago, pre -Covid we booked a package to see Andrea Bocelli in concert in Lajatico,Tuscany through Mulberry Travel. We returned yesterday from that trip having witnessed the Maestro singing at the Theatre of Silence, with the finale Nessum Dorma ringing in our ears and etched in our memories.
This was achieved by the patience and persistence of the team at Mulberry Travel, who were faced with changes of travel dates, cancelled flights, and different airports whilst bombarded by the twists and turns of Covid 19. As a result of their fortitude and determination and our patience, we eventually savoured 3 wonderful nights and days exploring Florence, followed by an equally captivating 4 days on a vineyard in the Chianti region, eating Italian food and drinking home-grown wines whilst relaxing in the sun. Sincere thanks to you all Rob,Lee and Sasha and the team at Mulberry. Bravissimo!!!
