In Italy New Years Eve is referred to as “La Festa di San Silvestro” and there will be countless ways to celebrate this special night in Rome. You can walk down the Via della Conciliazione to beautiful St. Peter’s Square, listen to live music, enjoy a traditional Italian New Years Eve meal, and see in the New Year.
One of the best places to celebrate on New Years Eve in Rome is on Piazza Navona by the Colosseum, the biggest and most significant amphitheatre ever constructed during the Roman Empire, built to seat 60,000 spectators. People gather to watch the fireworks and see in the New Year together. While in Rome for the holidays you should also make time to check out some of the legendary sites and monuments of ancient Rome which include the Domus Aurea, the Roman Forum, the Bocca della Verita, the Pantheon, the Catacombs, the Circus Maximus, the Baths of Caracalla, the Mausoleum of Augustus.
Besides the remarkable Colosseum there will be live music performances on Via dei Fori Imperiali – beginning a couple of hours before a truely impressive midnight firework display while the biggest party of the night can be found at the Piazza del Popolo.
