All guests must arrive with a negative Covid-19 PCR test result, taken within 3 days prior to arrival in Barbados, unless arriving from a country categorized by the Barbados Ministry of Health & Wellness as ‘very low risk’. The categorization of countries can be found on the ‘Visit Barbados’ website. To be considered valid, Covid-19 PCR tests must be conducted by nasopharyngeal or oropharyngeal sample (or both). Saliva and nasal swabs are not accepted. Similarly, rapid tests and home test kits will be considered invalid. For any additional information on this, we recommend that you refer to the Barbados Travel Protocols document, from The Barbados Ministry of Health & Wellness. You will need to complete an online Immigration/Customs form and upload your negative PCR test result, in order to receive a certificate acknowledging that you have tested negative prior to boarding the aircraft. The online form can be completed at www.travelform.gov.bb, and you must travel either with the document printed or on your mobile device, as well as the negative PCR test results.Arrival requirements in Barbados
All arriving passengers must wear a mask whilst traversing the airport in Barbados and will have an automatic temperature check upon arrival. Our Fast-Track and Airport Concierge teams will greet you inside the airport terminal as usual, and assist throughout Immigration and Customs. Upon arrival at the resort your temperature will be taken and you will be escorted to your room. Having arrived in Barbados, a 2 nd negative PCR test will be required 4-5 days after the date of your first test, unless arriving from a ‘very low risk’ country in the last 21 days. Depending on the date of your first test, this will typically be conducted the day after your arrival, and test results are usually received within 24 hours. Until the results of this 2 nd test have been received, all guests will be required to quarantine within the resort. - You will be able to stay in the room you booked at Sandy Lane, for the duration of your quarantine.
- Upon receiving your 2 nd negative PCR test result in Barbados, you will be able to remain in the same room.
Which facilities am I able to use whilst in quarantine?
- 24 hour in room dining will be available as usual. Room service staff will be required to ring your doorbell and present the trolley outside of the room, as they are not permitted to enter guest quarantine rooms, whilst you are inside.
- A designated restaurant on the upper level of The Spa, called The Frangipani Restaurant, will be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner for all guests in quarantine, awaiting their 2 nd test results.
- You will also be able to relax in The Frangipani Lounge, a dedicated lounge area located on the upper level of The Spa, where a bar will be open throughout the day.
- Guests will be able to traverse between their bedroom and the upper level of The Spa only.
Which facilities are unavailable whilst in quarantine?
- The only facilities available to guests in quarantine have been listed above.
- Access to facilities such as the beach, the pool, all restaurants and bars (with the exception of The Frangipani Restaurant and The Frangipani Lounge), gym, The Spa, tennis, The Country Club and all golf courses, retail outlets, The Treehouse Club, Watersports and The Salon are only available, once your 2 nd negative PCR test result has been received.
Will I be required to wear a mask during quarantine?
- Yes, all guests in quarantine will be required to wear a mask, whilst traversing between any public areas of the hotel. However, masks will not be required whilst you are dining in the restaurant.
Will I be required to wear a wristband during quarantine?
- Yes, all guests in quarantine will be required to wear a wristband, which will be provided upon arrival in Barbados. Wristbands are not required for guests that have received their 2 nd negative PCR test result.
- Guests will be required by the Ministry of Health & Wellness to monitor their temperature by recording their daily temperature reading, which must be shared with the Ministry of Health & Wellness upon request and our Nurse will be happy to assist with this.
If I am travelling with guests located in the room next door, am I able to have the interconnecting doors open during quarantine?
- Yes, the interconnecting doors can be open during your stay whilst in quarantine.
If I am travelling with guests of the same party but have travelled from different locations, am I able to quarantine together?
- No, you can only quarantine together if you have travelled from the same location on the same day, otherwise you will need to start the process again from the beginning.
If I am travelling with guests located in a room which is not interconnecting, will I be able to see them in their room whilst in quarantine?
- If all guests form part of the same party or household, and are in quarantine together, then you will be able to socialise together.
- If you are not part of the same household or party, or are quarantining at a different stage to another guest, you will not be able to socialise together.
Does this protocol also relate to dining in The Frangipani Restaurant and socializing in The Frangipani Lounge?
- Yes, guests from different households or parties will not be able to dine together, until they have all received their 2 nd negative PCR test result.
Will housekeeping services be available during my quarantine?
- Daily limited housekeeping service and turndown will be available during quarantine. However, this will only be allowed whilst you are not in your room, i.e. at breakfast, lunch or dinner in The Frangipani Restaurant, or relaxing in The Frangipani Lounge.
What happens if I violate the quarantine protocols?
- You will be expected to sign a form at the airport given by the Ministry of Health & Wellness, which outlines the guideline to be followed while in quarantine on the island.
Obtaining a 2 nd PCR test whilst staying at Sandy Lane
All guests of Sandy Lane will be provided with the option to have their 2 nd PCR test conducted by a doctor from Platinum Services. For one to two persons, the cost is US$200 per person. For parties of three or more, the cost is US$175 per person. These tests will be conducted in Mahogany, which is one of our meeting rooms within the hotel. Upon receiving your 2 nd negative PCR test result, you will be able to use all of the resort’s facilities as usual, in addition to being able to leave the resort to explore Barbados. You may still be required to provide twice-daily temperature checks, via telephone, to an appointed health officer or our Resident Hotel Nurse.Guests with a positive Covid-19 tests results
In the unlikely event that a 2 nd PCR test result is positive, The Barbados Ministry of Health & Wellness protocols state that guests must complete an assessment at The Ministry of Health’s medical centre, located at Harrison’s Point, to be monitored for the onset of any symptoms, for up to 24 hours. If you are asymptomatic you may request the option from the Ministry of Health & Wellness to self-isolate at an approved Villa or an alternative hotel on island at your expense, until you receive 2 consecutive negative PCR test results. Alternatively, you may depart the island by private jet at your own expense. If you are symptomatic you will be required to isolate at the Ministry of Health medical centre until you receive 2 consecutive negative PCR test results. Alternatively, you may depart the island by air ambulance at your own expense, which can be arranged with the Ministry of Health & Wellness. If only one member of the party tests positive, all other members will be required to quarantine within their room. Guests within this party will not be able to participate in any activities in the hotel, and will need begin a new period of quarantine. You will be able to enjoy all of the resort’s facilities once again, upon receiving a negative PCR test result.General questions
Is the 2 nd PCR test in Barbados mandatory?
- Yes, it is now mandatory for guests flying from high risk and medium risk countries to receive a 2nd test while on island.
When should I have my Covid-19 PCR test taken, prior to flying to Barbados?
- The ‘Visit Barbados’ website provides the following table, which indicates your 3-day window for testing: Arriving: Monday – 1st Test: Friday Arriving: Tuesday – 1st Test: Saturday Arriving Wednesday – 1st Test: Sunday Arriving Thursday – 1st Test: Monday Arriving Friday – 1st Test: Tuesday Arriving Saturday – 1st Test: Wednesday Arriving Sunday – 1st Test: Thursday
Is there an age restriction for Covid-19 PCR testing?
- Yes, children under 5 years of age will not be required to have a Covid-19 PCR test, unless they are symptomatic or any member of the travel party has a positive test result.
Will guests be expected to wear a mask around the hotel or on the beach?
- Barbados’s guidelines require that all guests wear mask whilst traversing throughout the hotel. However, it will not be required for guests at the beach, pool, any sporting facilities or whilst guests are dining in the restaurants.
Will all Sandy Lane staff be required to wear a mask during my stay?
- Yes, all Sandy Lane staff will be required to wear masks around the resort and, in some cases, additional PPE (personal protective equipment).
Will I be required to quarantine at Sandy Lane, if I am arriving at the hotel (from another Villa or property) having already received a 2 nd negative PCR test result?
- No, if you have already received your 2 nd negative PCR test result on island, you will be able to enjoy all of the resort’s facilities from the moment you arrive. All guests, however, will need to provide a copy of their certificate, confirming that the 2 nd PCR test result on island was negative. This certificate can either be emailed to Reservations@SandyLane.com, or provided as a hard copy upon arrival.
Will Sandy Lane have any additional cleaning measures in place around the resort?
- In keeping with our Five Star / Five Diamond standards, cleanliness at Sandy Lane has always been paramount. Additional measures and cleaning protocols have been implemented, to enhance our already high standards and to ensure that any high touch points are sanitized frequently.
Does every department at Sandy Lane have written safety protocols in place?
- Yes, all departments have comprehensive Covid-19 safety protocols in place, and extensive training has been conducted with all members of the team.
How does the air-conditioning system work in the hotel bedrooms; is the air recirculated around all of the bedrooms?
- Sandy Lane has a highly sophisticated chilled water air delivery system, which controls the airflow in all of the hotel’s bedrooms completely separately and independently. Air is initially evaporated and condensed through a series of pumps, before being supplied to the main hotel. Each bedroom has its own dedicated AHU (Air Handling Unit), which filters any remaining particles in the air, as well as an outside AHU that circulates the outside air, whilst UV light filters also further purifies the final air supply for added quality and peace of mind.
Will off-property activities be allowed for guests whilst in quarantine?
- Guests in quarantine will be required to stay within the resort until their 2nd negative PCR test result has been received.
Will normal housekeeping services and in room dining be resumed once I have moved out of quarantine?
- Yes, all services will resume as normal. Housekeeping service and turndown can be completed whilst guests occupy the room, if necessary, and the in room dining team will be able to set up your meals inside the room, if you wish.
Will The Treehouse Club be accepting children as usual throughout my stay?
- Guests and children in quarantine will not be able to use The Treehouse Club facilities. However, The Treehouse Club will be open as usual for all guests and children, once the 2 nd negative PCR test result has been received.
- All Treehouse Club staff will be wearing adequate PPE in the facility.
Will babysitting services be available during my stay?
- Babysitters will be available to all guests that have received a 2 nd negative PCR test result. However, babysitters will not be able to go into guest rooms during any quarantine periods.
Will non-resident guests be allowed to visit Sandy Lane?
- Non-resident guests will not be permitted access to the hotel. The safety of our resident hotel guests and team members is of paramount importance, and this measure has been implemented to ensure that Sandy Lane is as safe an environment as possible.
Are there any exceptions to non-residents being allowed to use any of the hotel facilities?
- Yes, some exceptions have been made to this policy, which are noted below: SLPOA (Sandy Lane Property Owners Association) Members will be allowed access to tennis courts #6, #7, #8 and #9, but will not have access to Sandy Lane Hotel itself. Tennis courts must be booked in advance, and proof of a 2 nd negative PCR test result must be provided prior to arriving at the tennis facilities. Golf Playing Card Holders and non-residents will be allowed access to The Old 9 and The Country Club golf courses, as long as they have a pre-booked tee time. Playing Card Holders and non-residents will also have access to all of The Country Club and Old 9 clubhouse facilities (as long as they have a pre-booked tee time), but will not have access to Sandy Lane Hotel itself. Proof of a 2 nd negative PCR test result must be provided prior to arrival at the facilities.
Is any social distancing required or practiced in Barbados?
- The Barbados Ministry of Health & Wellness recommends physical social distancing of 3 feet. However, at Sandy Lane we will recommend and practice 6 feet wherever possible.
Are other restaurants and shops in Barbados still open?
- Yes, the vast majority of restaurants are open. However, our Reservations and Concierge teams will be able to assist you with any information related to restaurant bookings.
Will I be able to enjoy external activities such as catamaran trips, shopping and off-property excursions, after I have received my 2 nd negative PCR test result?
- Yes, all activities will be available for you to enjoy at your leisure. Please remember that external activities will have their own safety protocols in place.
When are the Barbados Travel Protocols & Guidelines updated?
- These are updated periodically. Changes can be made based on a number of factors, such as new scientific research becoming available, the WHO (World Health Organization) guidelines being updated, or changes in travel protocols being issued from other countries.
