Day One - Depart London 13:37
  • Depart from London late afternoon, travelling north through Hertfordshire as you enjoy a champagne afternoon tea. Journey past Peterborough, Darlington and York.
  • Enjoy cocktails and canapés before settling down to a formal Gala Dinner.
  • Our jazz duo set the scene in the Observation Car before stabling at Newcastle for the night.

Day Two - Arrive Edinburgh Waverley 10:00
  • Depart from Newcastle in the morning and enjoy a leisurely breakfast.
  • Admire the stunning views over the east coast as the train enters Scotland, travelling through Alnmouth and Berwick.
  • The journey comes to a close as you arrive at Edinburgh Waverly mid-morning.

Itinerary – Highland Journey (3 Days / 2 Nights)

Day One - Depart Edinburgh Waverley 13:43
  • Departing Edinburgh in the early afternoon, journey north through the former Kingdom of Fife, then up into the dramatic scenery of the Highlands.
  • In the evening a sumptuous dinner is served, followed by entertainment in the Observation Car, overnight in Boat of Garten.

Day Two
  • After breakfast, you travel by coach to Rothiemurchus Estate in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park.
  • Rothiemurchus offers a magical setting in which to try a spot of clay-pigeon shooting or fishing or a tour of the estate.
  • Rejoin the train for lunch and travel to Culloden Battlefield for a private tour.
  • Enjoy an evening visit to Strathisla Distillery, one of the oldest working distilleries and home to one of Scotland’s most famous whiskies.
  • Back on board enjoy some spectacular panoramas on the way south through Aberdeenshire and Angus. A formal dinner is served on the way to Dundee.

Day Three - Arrive Edinburgh Waverley 09:49
  • Enjoy a leisurely breakfast as you leave Dundee behind and return to Edinburgh.

Itinerary – Western Journey (4 Days / 3 Nights)

Day One - Depart Edinburgh Waverley 13:51
  • The train departs leaves Edinburgh in the early afternoon and heads west through Falkirk, reaching Craigendoran the starting point for the West Highland Line.
  • Guests enjoy an indulgent afternoon tea and soon you also catch a first glimpse of Loch Lomond.
  • After climbing up the waterfall-rich Glen Falloch, the train continues north to the village of Spean Bridge for the night.
  • Enjoy a splendid informal dinner and entertainment in the Observation Car.

Day Two
  • As the train continues west, passing through Fort William, don’t miss the views of Ben Nevis.
  • Disembark at Arisaig, for a stroll along the gleaming Morar Sands marvelling at the views of the Isle of Skye’s majestic Cuillin Mountains.
  • Lunch is served as the train retraces its route back to Fort William, the largest town in the West Highlands.
  • After lunch, our Highlander accompanies you to Glenfinnan Monument to explain the area’s history before tea at Inverlochy Castle.
  • Energtic guests can choose instead to walk to beautiful Steall Waterfall.
  • Return to the train in Fort William and relax on board before an informal dinner is served as you travel south towards the tiny Argyll village of Bridge of Orchy.
  • Afterwards, enjoy a nightcap whilst listening to the evening entertainment in the Observation Car.

Day Three
  • Today’s destination is the charming Isle of Bute. The island is rich in geology, history and wildlife, with a varied landscape.
  • Guests enjoy a fascinating visit to Mount Stuart, a Victorian Gothic house with arguably the finest privately held collection of family portraits in Scotland.
  • Return to Wemyss Bay for a formal dinner and overnight on board.
Day Four - Arrive Edinburgh Waverley 09:50

Day Two
  • Breakfast is served as the train leaves Keith and travels through Inverness, on its way to Glen Ord Distillery.
  • Later enjoy a delicious lunch as the train heads towards Kyle of Lochalsh. Here you can explore Plockton – perhaps take a boat trip to see wild seals or enjoy a dram in the Plockton Hotel.
  • Spend the night on board in Kyle of Lochalsh. Dinner is formal, followed by entertainment in the Observation Car, which offers mesmerising views over Loch Alsh to the Isle of Skye.

Day Three
  • After breakfast you can choose to visit Eilean Donan castle before the train heads north to Inverness, then south to Carrbridge where guests disembark and explore the romantic Ballindalloch Castle.
  • The night is spent on board at Boat of Garten on the private Strathspey Railway.
  • After an informal dinner, our highlander regales guests with tales and weaponry displays.
Day Four
  • The day begins with a visit to the stunning Rothiemurchus Estate, where fishing, clay pigeon shooting, or a tour of the estate can be enjoyed.

  • Back on board, relax as the train heads towards Kyle of Lochalsh with spectacular scenery en-route to the fishing village of Plockton. Dinner is formal, followed by entertainment in the Observation Car, which offers mesmerising views over Loch Alsh to the Isle of Skye.

Day Three

Passenger Cabin Information

There are 14 twin, two double and four single State Cabins in the train’s Sleeping Cars, each lined with rich marquetry. All have a private bathroom with shower, washbasin and toilet, constant hot water, high-quality toiletries and fresh towels every day.

Rooms have been designed to offer the ultimate in luxury travel. Facilities include lower beds, a dressing table, a full-length wardrobe, individually controlled heating, ceiling fans, opening windows and a cabin service call button.

On each bed are a feather and a foam pillow, a hypoallergenic duvet and quilted cotton bed covers. With the train stabled at night in a quiet siding or station, a good night’s sleep is guaranteed.
