The Bar Car was built in France in 1931 and based at the Gare Saint-Lazare in Paris. After the war it ran as part of the Sud Express from Paris to Irún on the Spanish border and from Paris to Toulouse in Le Capitole.
Today it boasts a beautiful, Art Nouveau-style interior by Gérard Gallet.
The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train is quite unlike anything you will ever experience….
From the 1920s to the ‘30s the carriages of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train played a significant role in the golden age of travel.

Day Two aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express
[su_list icon=”icon: check” icon_color=”#0489ad”]
You awake to the magnificent scenery of the Swiss Alps as breakfast is served in your cabin at a time to suit you.
Spend the morning relaxing in your cabin or in the Bar Car chatting to fellow guests.
Enjoy a leisurely three-course lunch which is served in another one of the beautiful restaurant cars.
While away the afternoon admiring the passing scenery as the train travels through the Italian Dolomites.
Later, afternoon tea is served in your cabin.
All too soon it is time to prepare to disembark as the train crosses the Venetian Lagoon and pulls into Santa Lucia station.
Spend 2 nights in Venice. Our recommendation is The Belmond Hotel Cipriani, it’s the most famous hotel in Venice and has a reputation as one of the best hotels in the world. With its beautiful gardens, terraces, a tennis court and an enormous heated open-air sea water swimming pool, its the ideal base to take in the sights and sounds of Venice.

Can I smoke on board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train?
No. To comply with Italian and other European regulations, Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train operates a no smoking policy on board both the Belmond British Pullman and the continental train.
What do I wear on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train?
You can never be overdressed on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train. For dinner, we ask that men wear a suit and tie and women dress in smart attire, but many guests like to don black tie or evening dress for the occasion. During the day the dress code is smart-casual. At lunch, for example, a jacket and tie is suitable for men. Jeans are not acceptable at any time.
What languages do staff on board the train speak?
French, English and Italian are spoken by most stewards on board the continental train.
What currency do I need on board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train?
Prices are quoted in Euros and it is recommended that passengers have a small number of Euros for onboard purchases. However, most major currencies are accepted, as well as travellers’ cheques, Eurocheques and major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diners Club and JCB). The exchange rate on board is displayed in the Bar Car.
How long does my journey take?
Journeys on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train can last from one to several days. The traditional and most popular route between London and Venice takes two days, with one night on board. See Journey Search for details of our other departures.
How do I cross the English Channel?
Passengers travelling from or to London will board the Belmond British Pullman carriages of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train between London and Folkestone. You are then escorted by our hostess to a luxury coach for the Channel crossing on the Eurotunnel shuttle.
Will I need insurance for my trip?
As with all holidays and trips abroad, it is advisable to have travel insurance. Your Mulberry Travel advisor will be able to advise you.
Will there be room in my compartment for all my luggage?
Despite having luggage racks in our cabins, space constraints require that luggage is limited, per passenger, to: one suitable piece of hand luggage, one suit carrier or overnight bag (to be placed in your cabin), and one suitcase to be stored in the baggage car, where it will not be accessible until you reach your destination.
Will I need to tip the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express staff?
Any gratuities you wish to give are entirely at your discretion.

Dear Lee and all the Mulberry Travel Team,
We just wanted to thank you for organising such a wonderful trip to the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. Everything ran so smoothly from start to finish.
The Hotel Mayfair was absolutely perfect for us, comfortable, elegant, and ideally located. The drivers throughout the weekend and for our airport transfers were excellent, especially Riswan, who drove us to and from the races. He was not only professional but also a wonderful guide, sharing his enthusiasm and knowledge of Paris and France, which really added to the experience.
Attending the Arc itself was something we had wanted to do for many years, and we’re so glad to have finally experienced it.
Thank you again to you and your team for arranging everything so beautifully. You took all the stress out of the trip for us and we are very grateful. It truly was a memorable weekend.
Warm regards,
Maggie, Richard & Eleanor

Sasha and her colleagues did a fantastic job helping organising our honeymoon, arranging everything; sorting the flights and transfers and picking the hotels for the two centre trip to Verona and Lake Garda that we wanted. Everything went smoothly from the flights, the transfers from Verona airport to the hotel in Verona, between Verona and Sirmione and the return to the airport, the hotels and the Opera (which was a highlight).

We have just returned from seeing Andrea Bocelli in Italy. The whole trip was organised by Mulberry Travel. I cant recommend them highly enough. They organised everything from flights to transfers to accommodation and also tickets for the concert. Everything ran seamlessly. The Hotel L'Orologia in Florence was one if their recommendations. It was beautiful and centrally situated on a lovely piazza. Transfers to and from the airport and the concert ran like clockwork.
I will certainly be booking with Mulberry Travel again for any trips. It took the worry out of organising myself which I would normally do.

I recently booked a cruise to include tickets to Monaco Grand Prix for a special birthday surprise. Sasha contacted me via email so as not to spoil the surprise. This attention to detail continued along with timely correspondance throughout the whole planning period. The cruise was a great success but the hotel recommendations and even private hire transfers from airport, hotel and cruise port were all part of the very professional service and nothing was too much trouble. I would happily recommend Mulberry Travel to friends and family and will definitely use their services again. Thank you.

I recently travelled to Vienna and stayed in a five star hotel San Souci. After spending two days in Vienna my son and myself boarded the famous Orient Express train back to Paris and then onto London with Eurostar premium. The whole trip was organised by Mulberry Travel who arranged everything to perfection. I would recommend Mulberry travel to anyone. They took great care to ensure that we did not have any problems with our itinerary. The train ride on the Orient Express was in my opinion one of the best experiences of my life.
