The La Fenice Suite honours the city’s famous opera house, Gran Teatro La Fenice. Named after patrons of art, design and literature, Patron Canal Suites at The Gritti Palace immerse guests deep into the cultural and artistic roots of the city and this noble palace. The Peggy Guggenheim suite honors the legendary collector, once a frequent visitor of the hotel. The palazzo that houses her collection can be seen from the suites two balconies. The John Ruskin suite bears an authentic oil painting of the renowned art historian, and the expansive Punta della Dogana suite offers a finely restored selection of antiques from The Gritti Collection. Finally, the Donghia suite embraces a sophisticated interpretation of the minimalist style of American interior designer Angelo Donghia.

The Terrazza Redentore Suite is a spectacular two storey suite with an unparalleled 250sqm. rooftop terrace. A private elevator whisks guests from the main lobby of the hotel directly up to the suite’s cosy attic apartment which is composed of a living room featuring affrescos, and a bedroom decorated with precious fabrics of Lorenzo Rubelli design. An internal circular staircase unites the suite’s main apartment with its rooftop terrace in white Istrian stone, featuring an intimate pool overlooking the Grand Canal. This one-of-a-kind rooftop terrace is the perfect spot for entertaining al fresco, for celebrations, and one of the most exclusive private venues in the city for viewing the Redentore Celebration fireworks which take place every July.

The Suite features five floor-to-ceiling French doors that open onto a stand-up balcony that runs the length of the suite itself, and which affords magical views of the Grand Canal. Stucco decorations reminiscent of the Venetian Rococò grace the walls and ceiling cornices of this one-of-a-kind suite which is embellished with recreations of historic fabrics from the early 20th Century, an eclectic ensemble of meticulously restored antiques, majestic glass chandeliers from nearby Murano island, and of course, a collection of works by Somerset Maugham.

In the Presidential Suite that bears his name, Ernest Hemingway, who considered The Gritti Palace his home in Venice during the late 1940’s and early 1950’s, composed many passages of his novel “Across the River and Into the Trees.” Floor-to-ceiling French doors open onto stand-up balconies that afford rare views of the Grand Canal. Evoking the sense of place of a Venetian Palace on the Grand Canal during the 18th Century, the suite’s imposing design features stucco walls and ceiling cornices with Venetian Rococò motifs, and Ernest Hemingways own club chair.

Gritti_carpaccio_gamberi_lezione_venezia In this half-day class Executive Chef, Daniele Turco, will give you an exciting introduction to Italian cooking and show you how to cook an exquisite three course dinner using local ingredients, an essential part of Venetian Cuisine. Classes require a minimum of 2 participants but are also ideal for team building, spouse programs with a maximum attendance of 8 people. The Private Cooking Classes are twice a month and are available on a request basis. A 72 hour advance reservation is kindly required. Gritti_Epicurean_School_Venice_Chef_Table_Slider A three-day program with visit to the local Rialto Market, an indigenous Venetian Aperitivo at a local bacaro and more to learn how to prepare a dinner with hand picked local ingredients.

Day one

6:00 pm – Welcome Cocktails in The Epicurean School with Executive Chef Daniele Turco for a course overview 7.30 pm – Dinner at Club del Doge with a tailor made menu by the Chef.

Day two

9:00 am – Visit to the Rialto Market with the chef 11:00 am – Basic preparation and cooking techniques lesson, followed by hands-on lesson with the ingredients purchased at the Market 1:30 pm – Lunch at The Gritti Epicurean School with the prepared dishes

Day three

9:00 am – Cooking session, choosing between one of the following options: Venetian cicchetti, a dessert from the Veneto region, or Bar Longhi’s signature soufflé Lunch at leisure and afternoon departure

A man of countless innovations and enormous vision, Chef Turco’s motto is: “To combine without ever covering up”. This means the singular flavors of the fish, meat or vegetables are presented with condiments and sauces surrounding them so guests can choose to merge them as they wish. Venetian cuisine reflects the cultural influence of those who over the centuries have passed through the city and left their mark on its food scene.
